It seems there are several people who are on the waiting list for the original group planning to drive on Sunday, October 16. This topic is for those who would like to form an independent group who will travel separately from the original group. Enter the National Park at a different entrance and/or about an hour apart from the original group and drive separately from the original group so that both groups remain 15 and under.

Independent group participants can read the other topic, learn what they're doing, AND DO DIFFERENTLY.

If you want to meet up with the original group, before or after being on Skyline Drive, that's probably OK, but don't do ANYTHING that would cause a problem for the original group with the National Park Service!

If you're thinking about being in an independent group on Oct 16, please post in this topic. If you'd like to suggest a different drive day (like Saturday Oct 15 or a different weekend altogether in October 2011), please also post in this topic. If you would like to propose a different drive route, please post in this topic too, to give people the most opportunity.

I agree. its not like we hate you all lol i want all of us to go at the same time but 200 bucks is stupid and steep to drive on a road but we all should meet before the drive or after for sure!!! but there was also talk of taking better roads back..better being we dont need to pay anyone and are not limited to size of cars wanting to travel together so we can do the 2 seperate groups and then meet for lunch then do the free road back north all together. sound like a plan?

Here is a link to a Google Map showing a series of turns to a course on the west side of Skyline Dr. This is just a suggestion, please look it over. If you see pros or cons to this alternate course, please post!

The course has no planned lunch stop yet. Ideas? Although if the Skyline 15 are having lunch before entering Skyline Drive, the alternate group will probably have lunch with the Skyline 15.

This alternate route may take more or less time than being on Skyline Dr. If both groups travel on the same day, the alternate group can keep in touch with the Skyline group by phone in an attempt to reach the southern end of both courses about the same time. If the alternate group needs to make up time, Rt. 340 can be used more than this plan shows with some of the side roads bypassed to save time. If the alternate group gets well ahead of the Skyline group, the alternate group can make a slight detour to sightsee at one of several little parks or attractions near the alternate course.

If an alternate course group travels on the same day as the Skyline group, the alternate group can meet up at the MD and/or VA starting points of the Skyline group at the times scheduled by the Skyline group, then travel together until the Skyline group enters Skyline Dr., then the alternate group takes whatever course has been chosen.

There is an optional stop near the end of the alternate course at the Riverside Shopping Center in Waynesboro, VA. If we don't use this location to rendevous with the Skyline group, where should we rendevous?

I hope you get couple wait guys in here. I have about 3-4 wait lists and they have sweet cars. I appreciate you doing this
I really think 15 cars thing is dumb but it's the rules. Hope to see this group in park and take couple nice .
