Default Odd problem with my radio

Hey all.

Hate to be the kind of person who only posts when he has a problem, but I'm posting because I have a problem.

My radio has recently been doing something odd. The channel button on the dash will occasionally not function as a channel button, but will instead turn the volume up. When this happens, the volume control on the dash will cease to function. Turning the radio off, then on, will fix the issue temporarily, but it will happen again before too long.

I've found a thread that describes this same problem and Doug0716 was kind enough to post what could be done to diagnose the problem:

thread

However, I have neither the tools nor the electrical know-how to investigate this myself and the thread doesn't reveal what was discovered.

Anyone in Richmond have the tools and know-how to do what is suggested in the thread? I'll provide the beer for step 5.

By the way, my radio itself is stock, but I have the Lucid rear-speaker install.

Thanks,

Steve

Sorry, can't help you out! Ever thought of getting your radio replaced. I was looking at a place called Caar Toyz in Richmond. Any experience with them?

well taking a multimeter to any of the wires would certainly be able to verify voltage getting from point A to point B but being into car audio since before i could drive i would start by replacing both switches in the dash. it does unfortunately sound like it could be your radio though. either way go buy some switches from honda and see if you can bring them back if they do not solve the problem. btw you can go buy a cheap multimeter from radio shack for probably 20 bucks thats will measure voltage and impedance.

Steve, based on tpipta's recommendation, maybe I can help. I'd have to see how long it would take to remove the switches from mine. My car is down right now and I don't use them anyway. No promises.

I like multimeters . I think its neat when I touch the probes to things and then the needle dances around. Or is it that I like touching the probes to things and then noticing that the needle doesn't move at all ...

...Oh wait, that's right... I hate multimeters . I cannot appreciate how to read them to save my friggin' life!

Sorry Steve. My post doesn't help your radio HU plight. But I enjoyed my momentary bitch-fest over not understanding how a flickin' multimeter works .

You mean multimeters have needles? I hate needles.

Always happy to provide you a bitch-sesson excuse Dave!

Skip, thanks for the offer. Let me know if/when you get around to checking things out.

The radio thing is an annoyance only; certainly not something I can't live with for a while.

Now, if I start to see smoke coming out from behind the dash when I hit the Channel button, that's a different story!
