Wink A plea for a kidney...

I know this is a long shot, but at least it's a shot.

I guess I'll make this short and sweet. A friend of mine, who is only 31 years of age, in Florida, needs a kidney. He was on outpatient dialysis last year, and is now progressing to home dialysis 7 days a week, 13 hrs from midnight/1am to 1-2pm the next day. As you can see, he's getting worst. He needs a person with TYPE O blood to take a blood test to test for compatibility, and if there is a match to give up one of your kidneys. I know what you're thinking, that I've lost my mind and asked you to donate a kidney to a person you don't know. In reality, I haven't lost my mind, yet, and you only need one kidney to function anyways. He's had a few people take the tests, and were compatible, but had cold feet at the last minute. Imagine how he felt to know he had compatible matches, only to come up short at the last minute.

So in short, I'm asking for people with TYPE O blood if you'd be willing to take a blood test and see if you're compatible for the transplant. And if you are, if you'd be willing to give up one kidney to help save a friend. I would do it for anyone if my blood matched. If you don't believe me, ask the people that are closest to me on the boards and you'll find that I would save anyone's life, if I could. So, I'm asking for people to look within themselves and step up and save a life.

Thanks for your time in reading this. If you'd like to help me save my friend, please PM me and I'll explain the details in full to you. Please also understand that this process can be tedious. If you decide to start the process, and if you're a match, please find it in your heart to finish. Thanks.

Peter

WOW! I'm so sorry for you're friend and his family. I hope he pulls through, best of wishes to you. I'm sorry I can't do anything to help. Not even an O blood type My prayers are with him though. Someone out there will do it for him and I'm sure Karma will pay them back graciously as well

I have a co-worker who did this for his nephew and he said that after he gave one of his kidney, his other kidney basically doubled in size to compensate and also he is now on a priority list in case he needs kidney someday due to the fact that he gave up one of his kidney. I'm not O. I hope your friend can find a donor. Usually, family members are sought out. My prayers are with your friend.

Good luck with your goal... I'm B+ so I'm no help to you (or your friend). I really hope that things will work out for him. I hope his home dialysis is going well - I know a lot of people who gain a new sense of freedom that way because they don't have to go to the dialysis center every 2-3 days.

To those thinking of considering, your body will definitely compensate for the loss of one kidney, and you can fully function with only one. And as Honda 367 said, you will be put on a priority list in case you ever need a kidney. It's actually the same with most donations as well, in case someone else asks for another type of donation that you are considering. Consider this your good deed for the decade if you donate!

Does that also mean if my future son/daughter had a kidney problem and I have already given one, he/she could be put on the priority list instead?
