WOW, thats some nice stuff. i really like the first one, stealth mode in the secret compartment. i may have to copy that idea if its okay with rick. the other idea in the upper area would just be to hard, plus if the top is down, that would be very easily noticeable by a officer thats behind me.
thanx though w1ngman !!!

Can someone confirm or deny my understanding of what Virginia law and enforcement acutally is on radar detectors?

My understanding of the current situation: it is illegal to use a detector, but if caught it is a $75 fine, is NOT a moving violation, and they will NOT confiscate the detector.

I believe that they used to confiscate the detector but that there was a challenge of some kind in court over this and that Virginia was forced to stop this practice.

I have also heard that Virginia is loathe for people to raise a stink over the anti-detector law because there is some suspicion that it might not be valid under federal communications laws / regs. (Ban of a passive radio receiving device, etc.)

All of this may be urban legend as it is stuff told to me by my various friends / co-workers / cohorts. It would be great if someone has the definitive word.

75 dollar fine is cheap if it allows you to avoid a 100+ fee..

I bought the Escort S2 battery operated. It was rated very high by ex-troopers. I mount it with suction cups to the windshield (no velco-sticky stuff in the S2K). It has to be high enough to "look" out the back window too. It pops off alot in Dc with all the K-band secret squirrel comms going on up there so I don't use there (can;t really go too fast there anyway). Hasn't really told me anything yet. I'm using it around known speed trap areas while I'm within limits but it has not indicated radar activity yet.
I had heard that VA troopers can detect radar detectors and will pull you over if they "hear" a signal. Doesn't seem right if ours our passive and only listen.

I didn't think they could confiscate them...I think w1ngman did some looking into this a while back so he may chime in here.

I was in a Pathfinder with a friend who got busted with one and the cop just made him unplug it and put it in the farthest compartment from the driver (in this case, the rear cargo area).

I think his ticket was like $50...WAY less than the speeding ticket he would've gotten

yeah, but i've noticed alot lately. when i'm coming home alot of the cops arent running radar.. they are just going with traffic waiting for you to pass them, and if they are running it, they just use the gun. so they just wait for you to get on em then pull teh trigger.
kinda screws me

kidna thinkin about just taking it out
