Functional,

after reading all the posts here I can't say much that you haven't heard (or read). I know many of the posters here and they wouldn't steer you wrong.

I seriously recommend telling your parents. If you approach them the right way you may be surprised at how level headed they can be.

And, if they find out you are hiding it from them they "may" believe you are guilty. Why would you hide it? Do you follow.

I honestly, wish you the best of luck. I am just now getting over a horrible driving record with many tickets (mostly on 2 wheeled rockets). It is worth the attorney fee. Find someone that specializes in traffic cases and has been around awhile. They can often work deals with the DA.

jstar, according to what you say it seems that your brother is an officer. could you possibly find out for us if an officer can confiscate a radar detector in the state of VA if your caught using one? i've heard SEVERAL mixed answers on this one.

thank you

vvtli78k,
I didn't mean to sound harsh in my post, but the info that you had was incorrect. Perhaps if you lived in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania then your info holds true.

Black Nugget,
Yes my bro is an officer. I asked him about your question and in VA if the officer has reasonable suspicion you have a radar detector, he can search your car. If they find one or it is in plain view, it will be confiscated and used in court as evidence. However the ridicilous part of the law is they will then turn around after your hearing and give you the radar detector back. I'm not endorsing the use, but the word on the street is they are very easily hidden and not many are found...

hey guys im SOOOOOOO SORRY i havent replied to any of the helpful and insightful comments and answers to this problem! my comp at home has been down and i can only lurk on the boards and not post b/c i am using the computers @ class. But now the comp is finally working, and i finally came around to telling my parents. i kind of did it the chicken way though. I leave for class at around 3pm and my parents get home from work at around 5pm so after i folded my bed and cleand up my room a bit i left a note on my pillow case explaning everything and i was so sorry dissappointing them but if they would just believe me. I told them i already know the insurence is too high for the car and i would not mess around like that. Well sure enough, by the time i got home from class at around 11pm the parents were up and waiting for me. They just asked me to explain everything in detail and i did, and just like all the wonderful MId-A members said they were MUCH more pissed at the fact that i didnt tell them about it. They said "chris your telling me you got in trouble and were scared to tell us or ask us for help? Your crazy were are always gonna be here no matter what" and by that time i felt SOOO bad that i with held it from my parents for about a week. My mom started to call lawyers and so have I. Honestly my mom does seem kinda IFFY (not a real word but...) on my story but none the less she believes me and thats the good thing because its the truth. Well again all of you THANK YOU SO MUCH for everything and will never forget how helpful this MID-A community is and i know you guys will always be there, and im glad you guys dont think just because i am 18 years old with an S2000 that i was out driving like the cop said i was. Im much more mature then that and im glad you guys can see that. Aggain thank you to everyone. Ill keep everyone posted on what is going down as things proceed.

Good to hear that you were able to tell your parents, next time plese try not to hesitate though. remember that your parents will always love you and be there for you like they said. they may be frustrated... but its not like they'll hold it against you forever. remember no matter what they say i can almost guarentee they have done it somewhere in their past as well.
ie. my pops used to drive a 69' Firebird 400 with a Hertz 4 spd on the floor when he was my age. he told me all the stories with that car. said he had it checked and it was rated at 425hp and he drove it like it did. told me the only thing it couldnt pass was a gas station. then when i was 8yrs old he bought himself a brand new 89' Red Chrystler Conquest TSI and used to take me and my sister for rides in it all the time. remind you, that was the turbo car that was designed in late 80's running a low 14 quarter mile ! that car to this day is still remembered highly by tuners.

everytime i've been pulled over.. whether i got a warning or not the very first thing i do when i pull back off is call my father and tell him exactly what happened for 2 reasons. 1) cause my father has a very good memory, and if come court time i cant remember exactly everything that happened... i know my father can remind me as we get closer to the date. and 2) even though he'll be frustrated cause my isnurance will go up and because i'll have fines to pay.. he understands that i'm a kid and it happens. everyone gets the urge to drive fast.
shit, i used to have a JDM Gauge cluster in my car... so i read EVERYTHING in km/h.. i call my father one day playing and said guess who's doing 100 down the interstate. he just laughed and said.. wow, me too. i was like "WHAT". he said he just felt like test driving the 04' 5 Series (he has an 03' 5 Series) and wanted to see how well it handled at those speeds. once i finaly told him i was doing 100km/h and only 62mph he just laughed.

anyways, the moral of the story, most parents will understand.. just be truthful and dont hold back.

hope this all helps and works out for you.

I havent attended court as of yet. Court date was scheduled for yesterday.. friday the 6th, however my lawyer requested a continuance from the courts due to the fact he needed more time to speak with the officer & judge prior to the date.

Here is the last post i made in our whoring "at work thread" which had a little bit of information about my situatin, plus a link to in detail about the situation
hope this helps

POSTED IN OTHER THREAD:

By the way, for those that are interested
My court date for the reckless ticket when the kids threw something at my car (here is the post about it) was scheduled for tomorrow friday february 6th. I went ahead and had the appointment to meet with the lawyer that my friend highly recommended this past monday. He's VERY familiar and good in the Chesapeake Courts so he wanted to find out who the judge was & speak to the officer first. So either way... my court date has a continuence. i should be getting some mail in soon telling me when next date is.
wish me luck
*crosses fingers*
