Default S2k going soon - WRX replacement?

So I've started to get some interest in the S2000... Once it comes back from a beautifully-done job at Rockville Auto Body (and I unload this gawd-awful bright yellow Pontiac Sunfire rental - after a good thrashing, of course) I may just be able to sell The S2000.

Basically - any thoughts on the WRX? I'm looking at the wagon, most likely - for a number of reasons. I know it has some potential, but I'm guessing I'll be leaving it pretty stock (for the time being )... Then I'll be giving a call to evolution autosports. muhahaha... *ahem*

I understand some folks here may have or have driven the WRX and it seems like a good car for the money, about what I picked up my GSR for a few years back.

Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
- Chris

Why from a roadster to a wagon?

Don't worry, I'm not having kids! Actually, I need to sell the S because of ever-growing insurance costs and the monthly payments are killing me. I thought if I'm going to go for anything less, I might as well get something both fun AND useful.

I'd like to make some road trips and have also picked up the amateur astronomy bug. To fit the scope (in its case) into the S, I need to take out the passenger seat. Sort of problematic. Any sort of inhospitable weather and the S is sort of dangerous, as well...

I test drove a blue WRX wagon today and it's okay. It's no S, but I think it would be a pretty good car, and still sort of fun. I have a feeling I'd be tempted to mod it, which is an expensive route.

We'll see how it works out - I may end up driving the 1971 Beetle for a while. I was hoping someone around here had some experience or positive/negative info they could share.

Thanks.

Very good reasoning. I know a guy with a WRX that is fully setup and the car is very impressive. He replaced the tranny recently, but apart from that, I don't know of any issues. I also believe that you can do some minor (not a lot of $$) upgrades to pickup a lot of performance.

Try to PM Moonpie...might be that he still lurks around here??? He went the S2K-to-WRX domesticated husband route last year. He'd be a good one to get info from.

WRX goes for about 200-300$ above invoice. U should be able to pick one up for a good price. Sorry to see the s2000 go.

my cousin is thinking of getting a WRX wagon too... hey want to see if we can get some kind of discount? anyways, i like the wagon better then the sedan too... but i know one thing from talking with mark (moonpie) he told me that wagon dont have as much after market parts as the sedan... so if you are looking to moding the hell out of a WRX then get the sedan...

Impreza Wagons RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULE

btw, the wagon and the sedan are the same for modding... unless you're looking for aftermarket rear spoilers...

I've seen the prices at FitzMall.com - they're pretty good, if not the best prices I can find - according to them, under invoice. They don't "deal" but considering the costs, I don't think any dealing needs to be done.

They've also got 4.99% until Jan 2 on the 2003 WRX...

It's still a $22k car, tho. I got my GSR for 19... I'm still up in the air about it. I don't mind the blue, but might consider the black or silver.

Thanks to all for the responses.
