This is on the to do list at my house. So at that point, you will be the expert.

Looks good so far, Skip.

looks good so far, when is it going to be finished?
Don't ask Mani. The weather is going to suck.

Sorry I don't live closer Skip, I know you need knowledgeable and physical help in getting that beast off your back.

What was up with the plans you printed from Lowes? How can they not be as good as, or better than, code?

I know the worst part of this is, if you had known a total replacement was in order, you could have had the plans, materials and labor ready last Saturday. (Not to mention the couple of extra $,$$$.$$ that you had to cover)

PM me if you have any questions. My best friend Bill, you met on a drive, is a master carpenter. I do know this; for your steps, buy one precut stringer and use it to trace from. If that comes out too long or steep, let me know. Bill was rattling off crap about dividing the feet in drop by 9 to determine the number of steps required, but the stringers are cut differently, if you want a kick plate (rather than an opening) behind the steps.

Hardly an expert at all, Zeke, but I will be close to building two decks by the time I'm done. Thanks, everyone, for the well wishes.

Lou, I may take you up on the advice solicitation. I'm certain that there is now way I can make the concrete walkway like it was before. The rim joist in front of the door is already 4.5" beyond the old deck width. I will most likely have no choice now but to have the stairs go down 4-5 steps, build a platform, and then have the remaining steps turn 90* toward the driveway(which needs sealing). I have this fear that I'm going to be busting up the concrete and digging more holes.

Two pics from this morning before heading to work.

When I read that you weren't using any nails I thought you were going all Japanese with the carpentry. Then I realized you meant you're using screws

Lookin' good so far!

If it was japanese carpentry, the deck would transform into an airplane. Then it would kill all the other robots in the neighborhood spilling massive amounts of anime blood. (Not yours Chris)
