SOMD - SAMD 2012
Having corresponded with a couple other southern Maryland owners, I thought we’d see if we could meet up, and meet others, for a peaceful, multiple-stop drive that would end up arriving at the Lookout Point State Park in Scotland, MD.
The route will wind around some of southern Maryland and has a few stops along the way where others could join the drive without having to begin at the beginning, including those who might cross into MD from VA at the Nice Bridge.
Please see the intended itinerary and vote for the days and times that may work best for you. You may vote for multiple choices so that we can be more inclusive. The staggered starting times refer to the starting point and each stopping point along the route. Please vote in the poll by April 4 so that a primary date and a rain date may be chosen. Voting may be extended if early April dates are very unpopular.
The total drive time, including stops, is estimated to be three hours and 15 minutes (apart from any return drive).
Assuming nice weather, you may wish to drive in the cool morning and have a picnic of sorts at the park, or you may wish to drive in the afternoon and stay in the park for sunset overlooking the water. If we start in the morning, those that want to make a whole day of it can stay through sunset while those that don’t wish to stay can leave the park anytime. (Sunset in mid April will be at about 7:45.)

Some details about the park:
Day Use Service Charges - Weekends and holidays (May-September) $5 per person; out-of-state residents $6 per person. All other times $3 per vehicle; out-of-state residents $4 per vehicle. Day use service charges are valid for park use from 6 a.m. to sunset. (Maryland Passport, Disability and Golden Age Passes are valid during this time period. Active Military w/I.D.are exempt. Children in car seats are free.) Night fishing service charge is $3/vehicle for MD residents and $4/vehicle of out of state visitors and is in effect from sunset to 6 a.m. (use the white night pass envelope for payment). Any persons not actively fishing must leave at sunset.
Summer visitation - Point Lookout occasionally fills to capacity on summer weekends and holiday weekends. During these times you will not be able to enter the park, nor will you be able to just drive through the park. You may call 301-872-5688 to check on our visitation volume, however we can make no guarantees that we will not be filled to capacity by the time you arrive. On holiday weekends ( Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day weekends) we do not allow people to drive through without paying the service charge due to the volume of traffic within the park.
One reason for going in April - the fee is lower to stay in the park and, when not crowded, I think we can drive through the park on the public road without paying a fee. (and why I'm already thinking about an SOMD - SOMD, or Southern Maryland S2K October Meet and Drive)

I drove from Dunkirk to lusby last night just because it was beautiful I haven't been down many of the more southern back roads but I'm definately always up for a drive and a meet. This sounds like a great day planned COUNT ME IN!!
http://youtu.be/oFZCByva8HE I got bored about a year ago and pulled my exhaust off and took a ride this is the result of that ride mind the profanity good times in dunkirk...
Theres a ton of great roads up north ways like chaneyville to lower marlboro to mill branck (maybe mill swamp) then huntingtown rd to cox to wilson to dares beach. or what about dalyrumple rd... the list goes on Calvert has come great driving roads which makes owning an s2000 all the more exciting

Certainly doable. Those that start in the PF area could cross from Barstow to German Chapel, go a short way south on Rt. 2/4, turn right onto Sixes Rd, back to Rt 231, then turn west to continue on to the Bryantown stop. We'll need about 20 minutes more travel time, so I'll modify the start time and itinerary.
I appreciate the suggestion!

On the chance you want to end the route at a state park in MD, the entrance rates will be lower again in October - y'know, saving the pennies for what might be $5 gas by then
, but we could use your route sooner, then pick another route for October. Do you want to wait for an SOMD-SOMD 2012 (Southern Maryland - S2K October Meet and Drive), or go sooner?
