I was planning to go too, but drizzle and balding rear tires kept me home. Maybe next time.

So I'm thinking about starting up a plasti dip business. Not many folks provide the service around here. Actually I've only been able to find one. Ive be researching getting my car dipped since beginning of this year. what pushed me over was one of the guys in Ultraspeed that has dipped his car twice so far. We'll be dipping my S2000 next then another car in Ultraspeed which is a MR2.

It's a great alternative to vinyl wrapping and a better cost effective temporary solution to protecting ones car and changing colors I think.

I feel like it's something that can catch on. Maybe not to car enthusiasts per se, but to everyone else. I would think that most of the business I get would be from general population that don't visit Jenros, Cars and Coffee, or Freedom Wash. This would mean I would need to educate them on the pros and cons of dipping. How it won't damage the current paint on their vehicles, how it's just as durable as the paint on their car, etc.

I'd like to hear y'alls feedback on it.

I think when properly done Carlo it looks really good. It is a great alternative verse paint if you are a baller on a budget. Get at Bear because he's been contemplating doing that option a while.

I know several people that have dipped their cars. Some of the cars have been done more than once. The more I see it, the less I think about doing it to any of my cars. The people I know that do it do it right, one is even a official distributer, and the cars are still 10 or 20 footers at best. I'm disappointed because I had planned to do my race wheels in some sort of flashy color only to decide not to even bother.

I'll be sure to ping him to see if he wants to get it done after looking at my car.

I hear ya on that. Were these cars painted with the spray gun and not just the can? Using the spray gun takes a lot of the texture out of the dip wrap. Also, most folks that have had success with it needs to treat the car as if they were painting it when it comes preparing it for dip.

Wash Car with Dawn Soap (usually to strip the wax)
Air Compressor to blow out excess standing water and debris in the cracks
Wipe down car with pre-dip spray to degrease it some more
Start taping up sections you need to protect including back taping/masking
apply first two coats as base in 50% over lay lightly coating it with 15-30 minute cure times in between each coat
next two coats will be medium to heavy of whatever base color you're going with 15-30 minute cure times in between each coat
last top coats will include any additives like metelizer, pearlizer, flakes, micro flakes, etc. with 15-30 minute cure times in between each coat
2 hours to let the whole thing cure then washing car and wax it down to bring the color out

So at a minimum when spraying it on, it takes 1.25-1.5 hours to make sure it cure correctly with maybe 4-6 hours of prep work depending on size of vehicle.

I'll do camo green i think. since my car is white, my first two base coats will be gunmetal gray, then the next coats will be green, then last coats camo green.
