Default Sub Enclosure

Alright...I have a sub box that fits in the bottom of the trunk. (holds 1 12"). I hate the carpet on it and was wondering where can I get a carpet that would match the trunk liner in the rest of the trunk. Honda? Fabric Store?

Question number 2....I am looking at sub specs and many of the subs will fit, but it looks like I only have about 2 cubic ft of air in the box. When a sub says it needs 1.5 cubic feet I'm assuming that does not include the volume of space the sub takes up? I really like Boston Acoustic, but they seem to have only one sub that doesnt take up a lot of space within the box. The sub will be top mounted.

This is a sealed box. No ports.

If the enclosure has 2 cu.ft of volume, then it sits above the deck of trunk. I'm assuming MDF was used for the enclosure? If so, it's gonna be h-e-a-v-y!

Yes, when determining volume you need to subtract the displacement of the actual speaker from the overall volume of the enclosure. It is usually in the speakers spec sheet. additionally, subs have a window of volume at which they work best. Again, the spec sheet should have the range for both ported and sealed enclosures.

I was hoping you'd speak up. Yes it is MDF...it's actually pretty light considering. I think its 3/4 inch. The top sits about an inch below the trunk deck actually....maybe I did my math wrong. $#%#

I'm really trying to get the optimal sub for whatever amount of air is actually in there. I'll have to remeasure when I get home. Do you know of any company that might have a line of subs that dont need a whole lot of air?

Forgot to answer the carpet question: No. No carpet matches exactly to the oem. Can't remember if it's dark charcoal or black that matches best.

Here is the link to my photo album chronicling both volume measurements and the process by which I came about making my fiberglassed enclosure/beverage cooler.

Dylan has the pics of its secondary purpose!

Remember to use inside dimensions, not outside. JL's aren't terrible as far as volume, but if you were to get a W7, you need massive volume.

2. I would check out Elemental Designs 13ov2... Excellent sounding sub w/ small box abilities...
Yes. Thank you, Bill. I couldn't remember the name, but ED does require very little volume. I've never auditioned them personally, but the guys in the Electronics forum were high on them... that is until no one could get them.

I've had 4 different eD subs in 2 seperate cars... I love them. I already have the eD 6500s component set and 1 NINe.2 to power them, soon will be another NINe.2 and a 110v2.
