Thumbs down Suggestions for Sightings thread(s)

I received numerous complaints about the last local sightings thread over the last year because it covered too broad of an area......NOVA was tired of reading about Virginia Beach sightings, there were too few sightings in Western Virginia for any of those people to pay attention, so we ended up with a very short list of sightings participants (I even stopped paying attention to it for a while).

When WarrenW started more regionalized threads, I thought it was a great idea and logical decision..........others don't

I agree that 4 different threads might be a bit too much, so I'm asking the community at large to post some ideas on what to do.

So far we have:

1. One thread to cover the entire Mid-A as it was before
2. The 4 threads that are out there now (probably could use some geographic tweaking)
3. Three threads - a. SOVA/Richmond b. DC Metro c. Baltimore Metro

If we decide to go with the third choice, then I'll be the first to admit that my geography for the Mid Atlantic territories is only good from Virginia Beach to the Richmond areas, so I'm going to need some help determining NOVA, Charlottesville, Roanoke out to the border, DC, and all of Maryland.

Whatever we decide will be a fresh start, so I'd like to see an agreeable sightings solution soon. Keep using the current threads (as confusing as they might be) for the time being.

Thanks everybody

When I see another S Owner on the street, i do wave.. however no longer post it in the "Local Sightings" thread anymore.
So I cannot honestly say my opinion will matter in any way shape or form

My vote is for option #3, since it was my idea

But going with option 2 or 3 is cool, since I think it makes sense to have it broken down by geographical region, and I agree that some tweaking should need to be done on the regions as they stand right now (too confusing since the threads all overlap).

Pointy, it won't be up to you to decide where the boundaries are. The person who posts the sighting will know where it happened and post in the appropriate thread

That said, I used to post sightings but now there are too many S2000s on the road and so few of the owners are on s2ki so it seems pretty futile. If I see someone from s2ki on the road, I'll just let you know at the next meet

This is just my opinion but since Baltimore and DC is only 1 hour from each other.. they should be lumped together as a whole thread. Since VA beach/Richmond/Charlottesville are more than 2 hours away they should have their own thread. Speaking for myself, I travel from Bmore to DC quite so the chances of me seeing a S and putting it in a thread that I will more than likely check, it'll be a lumped one. Just my $.02 and the opinion of one person...

I'll be even happy if we go to the old ways.. I think only a few people had complaints, compared to a whole, about the one thread for sightings. I kind of like seeing the SOVA peeps post.. they seem to get alot of return posts..

I guess, taht would make it my $.04..

How 'bout you sticky "S Sightings?" In that thread, link the regional threads. This has folks looking in one spot for sightings and then localizing their search/posting. We already do that with events- not that anyone ever checks that thread anymore.

Once again, I'm stuck in the middle of the 2-hr void between DC and Richmond.

with the other non-C.O. above. One sticky with multi (whatever-regions-decided) Sightings threads linked within. Only caution would be that this will add "one more sticky." And I can say from experience that the "ONE" sticky up top that links events/dates/stuff was developed because the Mid-A forum had gotten waaaay too "top-heavy" with stickies in the past. So just a note of caution is all .

PS. By the way, I see my car every day! Does that count as a sighting

There is a section for sightings in the BIG sticky with all the links and what not in it.......added that right after the "DC Sightings" thread was started.

There was supposed to be a new calendar (for local events) and all sorts of things that would have taken care of the "top heaviness" of the stickies with Version 4, but they are still in production.

Hopefully Erik's (cthree) new S2Ki office will give him the motivation to get all those cool features he promised out soon.

Who can map out the regions for the sightings threads? We need at least 3 coverage areas.

I really like the 3rd option the best. It seems pretty clear to me, especially compared to the other options. I think that Roanoke could join in with the SOVA / Richmond group, even though it's not really that close to either. . We don't get a ton of Roanoke posts anyway. Charlottesville could squeeze into that thread too if it wanted, or it could maybe fit into DC Metro even though it's 2 hours away?

NOVA is clearly part of the DC Metro. DC Metro is the city itself + the MD and VA suburbs. Other than that, you're good to go.

Actually, I don't like the single-sticky top. Never did. Many times, "out-o-sight" equals "out-o-mind!" Just my opinion.
