Summit Point - Pointers Needed
The first time I attended a FATT was this past March and it was COOOOLD. Luckily, you won't have to deal with frozen snow banks where you'd normally see grass or gravel.
I'm sure you'll have fun and Gregg's right - the intructors are great at what they do. See if an instructor named Cliff is around and if possible if he'll ride with you for a session or two. You won't be disappointed.

Well they were calling for some snow flurries late this weekend so if they're calling for a "wintry mix" down at Summit, the event may be called off. What's it lookin like for this Friday, Gregg?..aka track ho.
Well, it is that time of the year and Summit is up in the mountains of WV. Pretty much every year that I can remember we've had miserable weather for the last FATT of the year. Last December it was a rain/snow/hail mix (hence your "wintery mix"), though we perservered until the elements just overcame any fight we put up.
My suggestion, cashout, is to still make the trip because chances are that the event won't be canceled.
Besides--we instructors have our annual Xmas party afterwards and nobody wants to see that canceled.

Lucky I had left the computer logged onto S2ki while I loaded the car. I was about to log off and get in the car when I saw Dave's post about THIS post...
Now... what the heck do I do tomorrow.....?????

As a Summit Point veteran on two wheels which I feeling safe in saying is more dangerous than on four wheels, I would be happy to share my knowledge of the track with you.
With that said I find two points interesting:
1. That after retiring from motor cycle road racing after several years I was able to "couch race" by sitting on my sofa with a stop watch in hand and run "mental laps" of the "Point" in my head and be with in a tenth of a second of my old lap times.
2. I returned to the point this August (2003) after treating it like an alcoholic and a bar as a spectator for a WERRA Motorcycle Cycle race. I was amazed by several observations: The Chevy and Ford vans were replaced by motor homes, most people had tents set up over their paddock areas and had generators running to power their tire warmers. I have often wondered how fast I "could have been" with modern frame geometry and tire technology! As opposed to the tubular steel and 4.25" bias ply tires of the 70's.
I was amazed to discover that my lap times of 1:40 something was still fast enough to put me in the first half of the pack!

What is a good S2000 time around Summit Point these days?
