Default TCT

So I purchased and installed a brand new TCT from Honda about a month ago (a little more than 400 miles), and it is already making the same noise that it was making before replacing it. Thoughts? I have a feeling I got a bad TCT.

Oil level low? You sure it's CCT and not valve noise? Does the noise occur on cold start or only warm? I can't imagine a bad CCT from factory. Sucks, man.

Aaron, I use Mobil 1 only. Its topped off, and was changed about 2300 miles ago. It only makes the noise when the car is warm. It is very odd that it would start doing it this soon.....

Recommendation based on my own observations is to stop using Mobil 1. Even though this one shouldn't have been killed in 400 miles, I've talked to a lot of people that replace these things too often. The common factor seems to be Mobil 1. There are always anomalies, and this based entirely on conjecture but it doesn't seem to be the quality synthetic it used to be.

Warm start is almost always CCT so you're likely right. Maybe someone sold you a used one? Like someone before you returned their used unit and it was resold to you as new? I'd pitch a fit with Honda and get a new one. That's unacceptable.

Additionally, I had consumption issues with Mobil 1 at end of life. I switched to Pennzoil Platuinum and stopped consuming oil.

I have already contacted the Honda dealer that sold me the CCT, and they want me to bring the part in for inspection. Ugh.

I havent experienced any oil consumption, but I will switch it out. Thanks for the oil recommendation.

I changed my tensioner not to long ago also, my08. Used only Mobil 1 since day one but as other noted my motor seemed chattery towards the end of the cycle I went with the inlinepro modified tensioner haven't had any problems since. Also not a drop of Mobil1 has seen my motor since the switch.
