Georgetown is definitely the place in the evenings... sort of a hike from the closest Metro stop, but a nice walk... nicer during the day. Great restaurants shopping and bars, nightlife.
might want to check this out when we are out there... is it far from the holiday inn?

Quick guide to navigating DC:

The city is divided into quadrants with the Capitol building at the center. Consitution avenue runs East and West from the Capitol, so anything North of it is NW or NE. Your hotel is in SW. The numbered streets run perpendicular to Consitution, and they count up from the Capitol in each direction (East and West). So 5th street SW is 5 blocks West of the Capitol, somewhere south of Consitution. Georgetown is basically the furthest West corner of the city but several blocks North of Consitution.

If I left anything important out, I'm sure people will jump on here.

check out the InsideOut series:

Very cool books complete with compass, pen, pop-out map, places to see, eat, shop, etc. We had one in Venice and one in Rome and they were very helpful (not so much in Venice, but short of a GPS, a map of Venice is useless ) And it fits in your pocket (relatively inconspicuous).

pop-up map example:

That helps me - I'm more of a visual person, so if I can picture it in my head I hopefully can figure out where we are.

animeS2K: that book looks pretty cool! Thanks!
