Bought an o2 simulator from o2simulator.com. The car is a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT.

We'll see how it goes.

Really want to get rid of the CEL anyways. Apparently the CEL makes the Tiburon run in "limp" mode or something.

A lot of cars will go into "Limp" mode if a CEL comes on. Limp mode is exactly what it sounds like it would be. It will not allow the car to run to its full potential i guess you could say. A LOT of turbo cars do this from the factory if the yoverboost, once in limp more they will only run like 4-5psi lol, my brothers old GLI would do this untill he changed the ecu

what car is this?!??!

By the way... if your handy, and this is what i did, i just took the instrument panel out, there are lil light bulbs. take the one light bulb that lights the CEL. no light bulb, no cel worked like a charm
First of all there is a bulb check procedure where the inspector has to visually check if the bulb illuminates for 2 seconds and turns off with key on engine off on all 96+ vehicles. If for any reason the inspector forgets to check the bulb, the PCM already knows there is a DTC and will automatically fail the vehicle via the DLC (obd2 connector). The PCM is what grounds the check engine light bulb, you will fail the test if there is any DTC set regardless of the bulb operating or not.

How is the test done in VA? In MD for OBD2 cars they just hook it to a reader I believe. For earlier they get the sniffer.

If VA reads your OBD then just resetting the CEL won't help. After a CEL reset several monitoring systems reset and the car will still fail the test even with the CEL out. The car won't pass until it's driven for a while under various conditions and all the sesnors check out ok.

Don't go for the test right after installing the O2 sim and resetting the CEL. Drive it for a few days and be sure to get some highway cruising so all the driving conditions are met.

I have an OEM header laying around if you need to borrow one.

Edit: nevermind, just realized your issue is with a Tiburon.

I can't tell if your being sarcastic or not but next time try doing a little more research before you spread the wrong information, it is misleading.
