PalmOS (Treo) > MS Smartphone
I owned a Motorola mpx200 and mpx220 previously. Both poop.

I have had more bad experiences with any palm BS than i can remember.
We gave away at 12 malfunctioning palm devices last week...and those were all gotten in the past 1.5-2 years MAX. Take away the 2 that had actual physical damage so that is still 10 stupid devices.
I personally have tried palm OS 3 times in the past and have had problems all the time.
Try a real windows mobile 5.0 device and you'll see how much better it is than Palm OS. I think youre problems are because you tried motorola devices... motorola also sucks compared to other phone manufacturers IMO...

ok... ok... i will jump in here....
Verizon does offer a phone update called backupassistant. as stated earlier, it is in the Get It Now, well worth it. I lost my phone the other day, and within seconds of receiving my new phone, it was all restored.
As far as the tech at vz store, they should have backed up the phone first, before doing the firmware update. Sorry dude...

I keep all my cotacts in Outlook on my work PC, and to make things even better we switched to Microsoft Exchange so my contacts are on the server and I can get to them whenever I want. Because we switched to Exchange I bought a Treo 700w through Verizon and everything (contacts, emails, notes, calendar, etc.) wirelessly syncs straight to the server from anywhere on the planet
I don't have to worry about the phone getting nuked, just the servers.....but then I have a backup in my phone or on my harddrive
- I won't buy a phone that doesn't at least sync with my computer through a USB cable.
As for the comments on Treo and Smartphones: the 700w is a Treo with Windows, and it has been the best phone I've ever owned. I used to go through phones every 6 months (being billed on 3,000 - 4,000 minutes a month), so for me to say the 700w is a great phone is a hell of a recommendation.

We got a test device in at work a few months back and it was cool. However we're sticking with Blackberry for the business for other reasons for now at least.
Personally I didn't really give the 700w any attention cuz I already had a smartphone and it was running Windows Mobile 5.0 so I loved it. Besides I like the way it looks better than any other treo/blackberry style device

The Motorola Q is cool. I haven't seen it in person, but it looks alright. Its also going for the whole treo/blackberry style look where you have the display with the full qwerty keyboard under it...which is fine...but I just prefer the look and style of my phone better
It looks like a phone when youre holding it to your face, not a pda on your face when you're talking
