Default Virginia front plates.

I was wandering around some VA government sites, and found a bill being sponsored by Del. Louderback, HB 280, that was in favor of dropping the requirement for front plates. I sent a quick e-mail in support of the bill, and promptly got a response from his assitant, saying to spread the word among enthusiasts to gather up support. A quote from his letter : "By the way, one plate would save the Commonwealth over $9 million annually." Sounds like money that could be used for something more useful. Anyway, the address I wrote to was Del_Louderback@house.state.va.us but I guess anyone in the transportation committee would be appropriate. With my luck, this means that I'll now get a ticket for not having my front plates on.

That's great news! Now if they would only consider dropping the annual inspections as well.

the main reason for the front liscense plate is better radar pinpointing on the vehicles. thats coming from a va cop. i would definitely be surprised if the bill was approved

I just got another e-mail, saying that you should contact your own delegate, not the bill sponsor (DUH). Anyway, he also said that most of the opposition was from law enforcement lobbyists, but that there was not a lot of opposition before, just a big lack of support. There are 19 other states that do not require a front plate, and there is little opposition coming from law enforcement agencies there. It can't hurt to help support a bill like this, and an e-mail to your delegate should not be too hard to do. I'm not up on a soapbox about talking to your elected representation and blah blah blah, I just figure with all the useless legislation that does get passed, I'd chime in on an issue that actually does interest me.

As far as I know, this bill was tabled in January by the transportation committee which essentially means that it is dead for the session.

We had a whole thread on this back in February.... "if I only had a search".

I wish this bill would pass as I can't stand having a front plate on my S2K, but have not been pulled for not having one yet. Unfortunetly, it probably won't for a long time. I used to be a legislative aide in the State House for a couple years in the late 90's and we always saw this bill and it always died in committee. The law enforcement lobbing group is very strong on this issue for some reason just as they are about radar dectors.

I am in favor for this bill to pass. I hate the look of the S w/ tags on the front of the car.
Its nasty!!!!!!!! I also love how the cops dont pull the Corvettes over for no tags but they will pull us.

Politics!
