Default Warehouse/Garage space?

Hey guys... I'm looking for an indoor space with nice smooth, clean concrete or pavement floors (no seams, no heavy texturing, etc) and plenty of space. 30x30ft or larger would be great, with good lighting. I can't stress "smooth" enough

I thought that maybe, just maybe someone had some retail space, garage space, warehouse space, that's not being used, and might be able to provide access to said space on Friday nights (10pm-2am) for a few people (6-12) to get together, set up a track and run RC drift sessions when it's raining or cold.

I know there are definitely issues with access, liability, control of the space and potentially more, but I also though it's worth a shot to ask

Or maybe someone just knows of a covered parking lot somewhere generally in the 270 corridor area with good lighting, smooth pavement and laid-back security guards

This RC drift thing has become a hobby of mine while my S has been down and I'd encourage anyone who's interested to check it out. You can get into a basic setup for about $300-350 with all new pieces, a good bit less for used. And it's a hell of a lot cheaper and safer than REAL drifting

Awesome idea, man... I'd probably just come to watch if it's near me. Do you run gas or electric? I just have a Ford GT that runs on electric, but it's comparatively slow, topping out at 30 MPH

Ever flipped through the Tower Hobbies catalog?

yeah, we run electric. drifting nitro is just not nearly as common.

you don't need speed to drift, either. people run completely stock motor/esc combos with the right tires and tuning and drift like mad.

so far we've got a couple of good outdoor spots, I'd just like to find a good indoor spot.

Different tires, you say? hmmm... maybe I'll have to find a charger and join then!

I think your biggest problem is going to be liability... insurance will not cover such circumstances, so the moment someone hits another cart, slams into a wall, etc., the building owner is open to maaaaaaajor lawsuits. It sounds like a blast, but I wouldn't put myself in that position... of course, my garage space amounts to 8' x 10' (imagining a scene from Austin Powers where he tries to turn the golf cart around in the tunnel).

yeah, i sort of figure as much. the trouble is, the only indoor track around doesn't allow you to use anything but foam tires (carpet track) and drifting on foam doesn't work so well

Damage from the cars is going to be pretty non-existant tho. They weigh a couple pounds each and when drifting seldom get anywhere near their straight-line grip racing top speeds (30-40mph)... more like 10-15mph.

at the austin powers reference. that's like me driving the car in the house
