Default weird run-in with MoCo cop

I was headed back home on Randolph from Rockville towards Georgia Ave (set my cruise control to 38mph thanks to the new speed cameras) and some MoCo police car comes swerving around me through the turn at about 65-70mph. i honk the horn (out of initial fear, then anger) as long as he can hear me and then come up behind him in a left turn lane at the intersection of Georgia/Randolph. i brake very late and he gets scared and floors it (burns tires) to move forward like one foot. i give a small honk (just out of being pissed) as he makes a u-turn, then i turn left and head home. in front of my neighborhood i notice he's back behind me and pulls me over. he comes to the car and asks for the license and registration and when i ask why he pulled me over, he says "you honked your horn for no ****ing reason and you were drifting in and out of the lane lines. i'm not in the mood for this tonight" i tell him that his language is completely uncalled for and that i honked the horn initially out of fear. he takes my license and does his thing inside the car and comes back and tells me that i shouldn't have used the horn unnecessarily and that he was "speeding for a reason." my question is--if he were speeding for a reason, why weren't his sirens on and how did he have the time to come back in the opposite direction in which he was heading to waste 10 minutes pulling me over?

in the end there was no ticket cause i didn't do anything illegal, but it just pissed me off that these cops drive recklessly all the time and then they actually pull people over for being angered (and endangered) by it.

i don't know if you guys think i was wrong or not, but either way i wasn't driving the S2000 so it didn't give the rest of you a bad name.

Well done. I admire that you stuck to your guns. Too many others would have assumed 'the position' when he came back to the car. You know the one; bent over the hood.

There are certain calls that cops arn't suppose to use their lights for, but they still try to get there as fast as they can. This doesn't seem like such a call, because he came back after you. I don't know why you would honk at a cop though....

next time smoke a cig, pop a perc, put on some marley or whatever you do and relax.

Having run crew at the fire department, we get called out often only to have us be put back "in service" before arriving to the call. I'm sure it happens to law enforcement as well. And yes, there are times when sirens and lights are not used. Response to possible suicides and domestic violence are two that I know of.

yeah i understand what you guys are saying. it was a spur of the moment angry/i felt threatened honk. but i don't think he was going anywhere in a hurry cause he U-turned to go back the other way (toward the Dunkin Donuts where they always hang out late at night), and then he came back to get me! from there back to my neighborhood was an extra 2 miles or so!

Law enforcement anywhere is not our enemy. Yes, some are a bit enamoured with their badges, however, we have many idiots on the board, too. That doesn't make the majority undesirable. I'd like to ask that you amend your title to something other than "stupid MoCo. Cops." I think it really doesn't need to be titled as such. Thanks.

i understand where you're coming from and your request has been honored. i guess i was just a little mad at his decision to pull me over for feeling threatened by reckless driving on his part, and at the way he spoke to me. but i understand you nonetheless.

You have road rage. Honking your horn, braking late to make it look like you're going to rear end him, and so on. (and doing this to a cop is just stupid) You're at fault if you did get a ticket for whatever reason.

Next time just pull up behind him get his tags and report it, and maybe he'll be rewarded with a nice little desk job.
