6k with labor?

Trying to "Fix" a F20C with those sort of Symptoms is not a job I would take lightly.

These are not Chevy V8's

This is true. Rebuilding engines is all but a lost art for people who make money working on cars. It is something fun and worth it if doing the work yourself, but otherwise a new/used engine is the way to go. A shop would not want to let a tech spend an entire week tearing your engine apart, gathering new parts, and put it back together when they could install a new one in a day or two and make their money marking up the price of the engine instead of on labor. That and replacement engines were built by the factory to factory specs. You never know with the mechanic. Hope everything works out.

Even with labor, that is still high.

Motor/Trans combo from most places is like $4200 plus shipping. Labor AT MOST would be like $1000. And that's just some auto places. My prices are never that high.

In my case that was false. Every shop in the dc/md/va area quoted me 2k minimum for removal and installation.

Just for installation it was over 1k more like 1400 minimum from the same shops that quoted me 2k lol and these are highly regarded shops on this forum.
