Here is a nice little loop, if you want some real twisties. Guaranteed to please all.

We could organize a drive out there once the weather breaks.

That'd make a nice warm-up for WTD...

I'd like to do this drive as well on a nice, warm weekend.

it's good, but b/c you have to be aware of traffic around some blind curves, the occasional jogger, police, etc., it takes away from the fun (too much to worry about that you don't ever get to push the car, IMO). if you could close both ends of it and drive it knowing there was no other traffic or cops to worry about, it would be a blast.
I've never seen any cops on it, but you can be a little less cautious if you take it real late at night. I've done it on a weekday at around 10pm and it was pretty empty ... I'd imagine if you were so inclined and tried it anytime past midnight on a weekday that it'd be pretty empty. Just wait until its warm enough out to do it

Just take it slow the first or second time so you can get used to it.

Holy Moly!! 250 mile loop! I'm hoping we'd stop to rest somewhere in there!
The loop itself Isnt 250, maybe 100? its the long drive out 66 to 81 and back that adds the miles up

Plenty of stops and breaks.

Anytime between around 3 or 4:00pm and the next morning you have to watch for deer. I know people who have almost gotten in accidents on that and other roads in Clifton. Deer EVERYWHERE.

George (gfacter) always comes up with good stuff! I like the Georgetown Pike and Kirby Rd sections BNavZ recommended, too, but if you get behind a slow car (which is often), they aren't much fun. I love Snickersville Turnpike up by Middleburg, and roads around that area in general. North and West, as George mentioned.

The backroads in MD around Frederick are pretty good and not too far away.

IMO, you need to head about 60 minutes North and or West to get to the
good stuff. .
If anyone is ever planning on heading N&W (Frederick & westward), just PM me and I would love to lead/join in the festivities. I designed the FCT'03 course for Rick and have pleeenty of other "hidden secrets" that I would love to share.

I'm in country hick-ville (self described ) where traffic is not nearly as bad as the city.

I checked this posting just to see if people talked about the roads in great falls...i'm lucky enough to live in GF, and man are the roads awesome. Plenty of turns that must be taken under 35, where u can just power out of them. Incredible. Back in High School (barely a year ago) i'd run these roads for probly an hour a day...(too bad i'm down at Roanoke/Blacksburg now and hafta wait for breaks to carve em up)
