I checked this posting just to see if people talked about the roads in great falls...i'm lucky enough to live in GF, and man are the roads awesome. Plenty of turns that must be taken under 35, where u can just power out of them. Incredible. Back in High School (barely a year ago) i'd run these roads for probly an hour a day...(too bad i'm down at Roanoke/Blacksburg now and hafta wait for breaks to carve em up)

There's a spot in VA across from a Mini Cooper dealership that have 2 sick twisties. It's very short, but very fun. The road is used for Ferraris and Lambo test drives. The road is closed off to the public and there's construction materials inside, so it's kinda dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. My friend went test driving a cooper and the lady took us thru it, it was awesome! I'm going to test it out myself when it gets warmer. It's very good practice and it help you get to know your car better. When we went, there was salt and dirt on the trail, so it was a little slippery. But the mini took the turns like a champ. I think everyone with an S2K should try it out. I suggest going early in the morning before the dealerships are open or after they're closed, which is 5 or 6 on Sat. This way you won't encounter people on their test drives, which would be bad. I don't know the weekday hrs, but I would assume they close a little later than 5 or 6. I don't know the exact location, but I can find out if you're interested.

Anybody know of some good twisty roads that are fun, relatively lightly travelled, and reasonably close to DC (30-45 mins)? I stumbled across one earlier this week, Rt 218 between Fredericksburg and Dahlgren. There was more traffic than I liked, but it definitely had some fun sections. Then earlier today I went down to Rt 619 W, right off of I95 a little south of Dale City. Someone recommended 619 to me, but I was a little disappointed. The road has potential, but to be really fun you'd have to drive at really unsafe speeds...like 75+ mph. The surface is very uneven, and there are several "hills" that you can get really light going over. On several occasions, those hills are swiftly followed by turns....that's no good. I don't recommend 619 for spirited driving.

Oh but dude, you have some of the best roads I've ever seen at your disposal now. There's one road out towards Eggleston (and the rope swing) that's pretty good, and heading out Route 11 towards Ironto is unreal too. If you can get Mapquest to plan the route to the Mountain View Cafe or The Home Place (slightly different routes, but both awesome), you'll be satisfied promise

I went to school at VT- Go Hokies!! The drive from some-road-off Main St to Homeplace was awesome! I didnt have my S2000 back then, but I used to drive a 94 Trans Am. Even though that thing was heavy and didnt handle well, it was still fun. If you plan on eating at Homeplace, make sure you pick a designated driver on the way back. I would eat myself into a food coma!
I never tried the Ironto route- but I've heard good things about it.

Since youre in Alexandria, you might want to try Popes Head off the Parkway. This definitely has some of those hills that are followed by a turn. Make sure you hit both sides of Popes Head, as the Parkway intersects it.
