Default Window regulator replacement

Was wondering if anyone in Mid-A has had their window regulator replaced and where they had it done? I contacted one of my local dealers and told them what happened to my window, wanted to make an appointment to have it replaced asked him to order the part and I would bring it in for service.

I have printed the Service Bulletin from Honda and everything. He gave me a long sob story about how I have to bring it in TWICE, first to do the diagonistic test to determine the problem and THEN to have it fixed. I don't have time to take it in twice, shouldn't once be enough? This is valuable time from work that I have to sit and wait on them to take the door apart 2 different times - once for evaluation and then to fix it. Has anyone else encountered this problem or can they recommend a dealer that can fix it the first time in the shop?? thanks

Beth, when I had mine done, I had taken my S in for the 15K service. After I dropped it off, I mentioned that the window didn't go down. They said no problem, and fixed it during the service, it couldn't have taken more than 30 minutes. They should know about this problem already, lots of other Hondas suffer from this same problem I believe..... can you try a different dealer?

I took mine to good old Checkered Flag and they fixed it on the first visit. You could try them. You'd only make one trip, but it'd be a LONG trip

Hi, Beth!

It's a standard S2000 problem. Mine (2002) started giving me trouble at about 7000 miles. The 'reset' trick posted many times on these boards worked for about 5 minutes for me. Next oil change, they said they'll fix it. The part is supposedly always in stock.

I'd try another dealer. Sounds like they don't read their tech bulletins.

You can't expect honda dealers to have parts in stock for your Honda S2000. In relation to Civic and Accords, Honda dealers most likely see 1 S2000 to 50 Civics. Why doesnt the dealer just preorder the part for you? Imagine Honda dealers preordering all these parts without first diagnosing the problems? What if you never returned to have the part installed? For example, you tell your local honda dealership your check engine light is on for catalytic detioration and that you want them to preorder the $500 cat. They order it get you in there and find you have a gutted cat or you hooked up your 02 sensor incorrectly. That honda parts department now has a car in inventory for a 01 Honda S2000...good luck trying to get rid of that. So maybe two visits isnt TOO bad when you are getting parts covered warranty..

^who are you? But you do have a valid point

Beth,

Honda parts have a shelf life of a month to 6 weeks - meaning - if the dealer doesn't sell it, then it gets shipped back to Honda (no harm to the dealer). You are welcome to bring your car to Checkered Flag and I can have the part ordered for you ahead of time. I know that is quite a haul for a simple problem, but it is the best I can offer.

Thanks guys..........
Jonas - that's what I thought - it IS a standard problem (even I know that) - they should have the part in stock - and obviously he didn't read his bulletins. But he didn't even CHECK to see if he had the part.

Dave - It was Mechanicsville Honda, Mike has had good luck with them and from all the other problems some of you have had with West Broad I hesitated to take it to them...... but I do know the parts manager there and have known him for 15 years so I think it would be worth a call.

BB6 - You sound exactly like the guy that I spoke with on the phone at the dealership.... I understand everything you said about ordering parts, having them on the shelf and people not coming in for service. And there are far less S2000's on the highway than Accords so it would be less likely for him to have that part in stock I was trying to help him by researching it on the S2ki boards first.

If it were my check engine light I realize it could be several different problem that WOULD have to be checked on the computer. I would never try to diagnose that myself. BUT how many parts in my door could be causing the issues of my window not rolling down? I was holding the service bulletin describing my problem and the NHTSA even had it on their website. I felt he was being very condesending towards me and I don't appreciate that. I'm not a dumb blonde and when someone treats me that way I will take my business elsewhere.

Time is money. I assume they are getting paid from Honda for the warranty items and the work they do. I am NOT getting paid to sit there and wait. Once is enough in my opinion. But twice is time away from my clients and my work.

Pointy - This is my 3rd Honda and I am a loyal Honda owner I do understand they can't possibly have every part for every Honda on the highway and I wondered about them shipping back parts they don't use - thank you for clairifying that for me. If you weren't so far away I would bring it to you but I won't be down that way anytime soon... but thanks for the offer
