Default Going to be in town next week

Hi all, wife is interviewing in Las Vegas next weekend and we wanted to look at homes in the area. Are there any areas we should avoid? How are the education systems? We have a 2 yr old who should be starting school soon. The company has arranged for us to go around with a broker but I'd like some extra opinions if possible. What's the average 4 bedroom house going for in a decent neighborhood? Thanks in advance.

We are currently in Phoenix doing the same thing in case anyone's wondering if this is a duplicate thread.

Henderson is really busy. Same with most of the southern parts. Henderson is very nice though.

I live south right now, but it's only temporary. We are having a house built in the northwest. I like it up there more because it is less crowded.

Housing is very expensive here, no matter really what part of town you are in. I'm in a 3 bedroom, 1800 sq ft home right now and it is going for 450k. Thank god it's only a rental. But, it is in a large golf course community.

Your budget will play a big role out here. Take a look around on the internet and check out some houses. Also, going out with an agent is a good way to learn some things about the area. Good luck.

Dan

Nice places are the Southeast (Henderson/Green Valley area), the Northwest, and Summerlin as well. Stay away from North Las Vegas. The Southwest is being developed at a rapid pace now, but the problems there are that none of the conveniences are built before the housing is finished so you'll run into construction traffic, closed roads from time to time, and longer drives to supermarkets etc. Some of this will be dictated by where her job is as well...as you don't want to have to commute across the valley if you can avoid it. For a nice 4 bedroom I'd expect to pay $450-500K in any of those areas.

We have a few board members that are real estate agents so you might want to consult with them in addition to anyone your company sets you up with. Karim is one, and Tim (CanIplay) is another. Tim put Carlene and I into our current place last year.

As far as school goes, beats me. Thankfully I don't have that to worry about.

The public education systems here are not the greatest. I have had my son in a couple private schools since 2 (he is currently 5)and they were excellent.

On the housing I would look at places somewhat close to where your wife's job would be. I live in the NW and love it cause its not as busy as everywhere else. On the realtor hit up Karim, Im enlisting his services to sell my house for me.

Hope you move out here Dan. All of the suggestions are good ones. Although I think the prices arent too expensive comparatively. Also, the educational systems arent as bad as many people think.

i just bought in a pulte sub called silverstone ranch that is selling some of it's models right now. i just moved to town as well and will be working at a hospital that is just now being constructed.

after looking around (from the outside) i liked the northwest. some of the summerlin area (southwest) is beautiful and it's proximity to an incredible park (red rock canyon) makes it very desirable, it was just too far from where my new hospital will be.

good luck!

Just got back from a couple of days in Vegas. We looked mostly in the Summerlin and Henderson areas. Homes sure aren't cheap but it's a better deal then Phoenix. We looked at a ton of new developments including a very out of our price range area called Dragon Gate (if I remember right). I'm amazed at how much construction is taking place in Las Vegas. You guys must have a really low unemployment rate.
