Practically everyone does, since as Ryan said no one actually takes the time to read their insurance contract.

Just An FYI... Only you, the owner of the car, can choose where the car gets repaired. Your insurance company can recomend a shop, but they can not tell you to go to a specific shop.

(this is coming from some one who's family has owned a collision repair shop for the last 20+ years...)

State Farm is reputed to be one of the best companies for the settling of claims. You pay more, but they cover you in cases where others (Progressive comes to mind) won't. Read your insurance contracts carefully. ALL of your coverage and exclusions are represented there and you agree to them all when you purchase a policy.

ON the opposite side of that... Dealing with Farmers on the Shops end of it has been Iffy at best, they tend to be very Nitpicky about what they will pay for in a repair, and trying to get supliments out of them can be like pulling teeth. but then you the customer never sees any of that.

from the shops point of view, state farm and american family are among the best. progressive is a pain... and aaa pays for everything no questions asked.
