I don't think it's limited to RE050s. I've got a set of S0-2s with the same problem. The cracking has gotten so bad, that I had to replace the fronts (even though they had plenty of rubber left) and am waiting for S0-2s to become available so I can replace the rears as well.
The best BStone would do is give me a discount on a new set. I'm not sure, though whether it's the fault of the tire or the previous owner (I bought them w/ rims on ebay).
Have you used tire dressing? That stuff is notorious for causing cracking and dry rot.

How old were the tires? I havent put anything on my tires yet. Well I actually work for Bridgestone/Firestone and I can tell you that those tires are defective (unless its 6+ years old.) Its referred to as Ozone Cracking or something like that but its something that is a warrentee. I just dont like driving on these tires since the new ones won't be in for 7-10 days. If you need any help, give me a call and I'll look at it for you.

Tire shine will cause tire to crack over time.
When I had my civic , me and one of my installers ordered two sets of the same tires together. He always glossed his tires and I never did mine . His were cracked in a year.

Mine are in the inner side of the tread. Its hard to see when not on a lift, I just happened to notice while doing my first LOF. Yeah I've seen tire shine do that before but it takes some time

My tires are a couple years old--I think they came off an 01. (my cracking is along the outside edge--where the sidewall and tread meet). But since I bought them used, there's no warranty. Even if there were a warranty, they'd still prorate the tires against the # of miles on them. So I'd end up where I am now--buying new tires at a discount.
What do you do for Bston/fstone?

Yeah you've got a point. I just sell for firestone (natick). How much tread do you have left on the tires? Maybe I can do better for you with my discount. Oh and Bridgestone is the parent company.

The fronts had 3/4 of their tread left. The rears were maybe just under half. The local firestone dealer is giving me a 50% discount. I've already replaced the fronts but am waiting for rears to come in.
