Default advice needed re: 1992 BMW 735i

I'm looking at a '92 735i with 155K to replace my '99 VW Passat with 95K (I owned since day 1) as my daily driver.

If the 735i was in good shape and didn't need major repairs should I do it??

I wouldn't do it...here is why...

Anything that ever breaks on that 7 series is gonna be a fortune to fix. Granted a 7 series isn't gonna be driven as hard as say an M3 by the previous owner but it does have 155k on it and is 7 years older.

Your passat you know every inch of that car because you've owned it from day one.

Personally I wouldn't do it.

I have an 01 740i Sport and love it. It is one of the most balanced cars I have ever driven (style/luxury/performance/cost of use).

The previous series 735's are great cars but do cost a small fortune to fix major stuff. There are other message boards that can give you data on that particular year and if it has any inherent problems, do a search on BMW message boards.

It comes down to cost of the car and condition.

You can't beat the style in a big car.

Expect gas mileage around 20 mpg.

Good luck either way!

Oh btw the 735 is not the best winter car.... Buy snows!!!

Why are you replacing the VW? Issues with it?

I just don't understand why your buying an OLDER car than you have already and with more miles.

I totally agree w/specialque

Older, more mileage, repair costs.......not a move I would make.

BTW, when we met at tech day, I though you were modding the Passat?

I have the 98 passat GLX. I've also owned it since day 1. It runs great. I admit, sometimes I wanna replace it with another car. You know what, at least I know everything about my passat.

Oh yeah, about the Bimmer. Be prepare to set aside ten grand for any future major repair.

It is up to you.

Good luck!
