Tracking number says delivery estimated for tomorrow. Might be in good shape after all. Picked up 2 gallons of coolant today at lunch. Hopefully I'll be good to go.

Follow-up: Block Heater installed with only minor causalities. I ended up going to Erick's as he was kind enough to lend his crack-house garage and tools so I could do the block heater and also work on my brother's car.

Block heater install took longer than expected. Drained the coolant only to find it was the older green stuff. So we ended up having the flush the system a few times before putting in the newer Honda blue stuff in. The problem is that refilling, then letting the car heat up, cycle, then cool down is time consuming. Unless of course you have Wendell's+1 there to de-pressurize the system (don't do this at home). Also, at one point we had the engine rpms up to 2k to speed up the heating process and the car was a an angle which oddly triggered the EPS light to come on. After a few restarts it went off by itself but this oddity was documented in someone else S2ki post. So yeah, Angle + higher RPM than idle == steering issue EPS light.. weird.

According to Erick the original coolant plug on the block was on there pretty good. He got it off with a decent sized breaker bar. I installed the block heater plug and found it's inconveniently located in a way that you need a swivel head to get a torque wrench on it to get it on just right. Running the cord was less than trivial. Just zip tie it in place and it's done. After a bleed everything was good to go.

I used the heater on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday this week. I have it on a timer to come on at 4AM and shut off at 8AM. The temps on these days were between 5-15 degrees. I had one stumble and restart but otherwise the starts were much much smoother. By the noise the car makes I can tell it's not putting as much strain on the starter. The real test will be on the next sub-zero day. So follow-up to come.

For the 40 dollars (25 + 15 shipping handling) I think it was a pretty good "mod" since I drive my car in the winter time. I did also spend about 30 dollars in coolant, but I probably needed the flush anyway as I'm sure that other stuff was in there since 2002.

So we also worked on my brother's Civic Si to replace his catalytic converter. Erick ended up cutting off every bolt because there was just no way they were coming off with a socket set. After troubleshooting a bad replacement O2 sensor (doh) his car appears to be all set and I believe we saved him about 500 by doing the work vs. the dealer's quote.

After that we hit up Wendell's. My brother had Wendell's for the first time, ordered the double dares and then 4 hours later was on a plane to Germany. I asked him how that went and he said "I made a mockery of the buisness class bathroom a number of times, probably spread over a few hundred miles". ew.

This happened to me a few days ago! I searched and seems we are not the only ones. It goes away after restarting the car though.
