Default Chain restaurants

So I got a family gathering tonight. The choice was to meet at a chain restaurant. What's up with the "we can't take reservations" at those places? Come on people, at least take reservations for large groups.

I had an "in" who was "supposed" to let them know, we were coming and supposedly he "put us in the book". When I called ahead, they played dumb. Maybe I was supposed to play along? ?

Well, I wonder how the family feels about take out pizza at my place. If the wait is too long it will pi$$ me off.

Too bad. They're stuck with me. You can't pick your family.

Can't you just call ahead in the morning? That's what I normally do. Just last week I met with former colleagues at Fridays, it was 8 of us. I called in the morning and when we arrived the table was ready for us in 5 minutes, the wait at the time was 45 minues for those just arriving.

Nope, the birthday boy would not cooperate...but we were seated in a timely manner.

Mas, this restaurant only takes "call ahead" reservations an hour before. When I called, they gave me the "we have several big parties this evening, can't guarantee when we will seat you." As I mentioned earlier I think it was some kind of game I was supposed to play, since a bartender I know supposedly put us "in the book"; but there are no "official reservations taken", so how could there be a book?

Either way, chain restaurants that won't take a reservation for a large party get a from me, and Rick's steak was overdone....

Maybe McD's for the next family gathering.
