i drove the car around last night and then today and on my way home from work...the light went off. that leads me to believe that it WAS the fuel cap. should i have it scanned anyway to check??? or does it not matter now, since the light is off? i was gonna go to Autozone tomorrow afternoon after work.

Don't bother with Autozone now that the light is off. If it comes back on, and the cap is still tight, bring it in, and they'll do the scan.
