If none of the above suggestions work, you could look as msconfig. Very useful to see what programs and services are loading at boot time.

Hope this helps.

I bookmarked it! If my friend doesn't need it, at least I'll have it for a later date.
I have used msconfig on earlier windows versions, but with XP I get scared off, afraid that I'll screw something up.
But some folks like AOL.
With the new Verizon offer of a lower speed DSL and AOL "bring your own connection" the folks are spending the same $23.90 they were spending before.
AOL is easy to use. Little old ladies like my Mom love it.

did you guys fix it?? and if it's "Mom's" computer i'll drive down this weekend to help you guys (it's the least we can do for Mom becuase she was very gernious on our hurrican drive!!)
Mom's computer is fine. The computer in question is my friend's. She is the world's biggest procastinator and has not even called me to tell me if my suggestions worked.

My suggestion stands... ditch AOL.
I feel that strongly about it. (computers is somethingI do on the side)

My mom learned how to use a computer using AOL, somewhere around the time she was 78 years old, so at almost 84, she's sticking with it. AOL is very user friendly to the computer novice. A few other folks like it too.
I ditched it when I went to DSL and have not missed it.
