Ever take anyone to small claims court...what a PIA/joke that can be.

I've made three trips to court now. First one guy doesn't show. OK, you lose and now you owe the money...court says so. Payment review, guy doesn't show. We get paperwork to pass on to a constable...constable sends yet another letter, tells guy to show, he doesn't show....now I give constable more $ and they check out the guy's assets to find out if he has anything worth the 2K he owes us, or if we will just end up having the guy arrested and thrown in the slammer. He can explain to the judge why he is in default of a court order....

We've had some success with small claims, but most of the time it's a huge waste of time....

It is interesting sitting in the court lobby watching the cast of characters though......

Maybe I should call Bass, who collects cash for a paycheck.....

Well I do get to enjoy the field trips to District Court.....and I set off the metal detector today...I got wanded.

Edit: At least it didn't happen two months ago when I couldn't raise both arms.

No, but I saw her. She would have killed me had she tackled me.

 

My brother does collection work. He says filings are way up, and actual collections are way down!

 

No surprise there, given the economy....I've sat through a few of the small claims sessions. I had really good results only once. A payment agreement was made the day we went to court, and they paid as agreed. No additional trips to court were required. Had they made regular, partial payments I wouldn't have taken them to small claims.

I am amazed at the number of people who don't even bother to show up....no effort at all to accept their obligations or try to work something out.

Lots of doctor's office managers in there, animal hospitals, Rent a Center, and many of them are there for multiple cases.

whoa you guys don't bust a couple legs for the cash? I used to know bookies back in the day and used to workout with the boys who'd come calling for the $$$. You wouldn't want these guy knocking on your door.
