?? Not sure......unless you were doing 150+ not sure why you had a driveshaft failure.....with a 6>5 downshift

I guess the good news is that the shaft gave way.....no something else....

The bad news.....if the shaft broke.....perhaps something else precipitated it's destruction.

I'd agree the 6 -> 5 shift is a pretty close ratio difference.
It was probably just the straw that broke the camel's back.
Unless of course you got 3rd and not 5th, then you should be very happy it was the driveshaft that popped.

How many miles do you have on it now?

Was it the U joint or the actual shaft that broke, wow that car has been giving you many issues since you bought it.

The other problem was air/fuel stuff so it really hasnt given me to many problems, it was my other one that I had to fix the tranny.

output shaft bearing?

well the smoke might have been tranny oil spraying on the exhaust

1st for me ???? I agree you have the strangest issues .. I thought I have heard of them all ..

I agree , unless you had 6 gear at readline , downshifting to 5th should have no ill effect .. but 6 to 3rd I can see locking the motor as it eats all the valves and snapping the shaft ..

Does the car still run normally ?

if you are leaking fluid out the shaft end of the tranny then you sheered the shaft as the hub that holds the driveshaft to is bolted on with one large nut and the driveshaft is bolted to that via 6 8mm Allen bolts .. it does not slide on like say a 350z ..

other scenario is you sheered the 6 bolts and the shaft came back and hit the hub bending the shaft and also causing a leak ..

either way sounds like the tranny is also junk

well any suggestions on where to get a trannsmission? The car starts fine and runs fine just doesnt go anywhere. Clutch feels the same. With my luck im sure I need a transmission. Im beginning to really hate the s2k. This would be my scond tranny in a s2k with less than 70k miles..not good. Should have kept my 400hp Vr4.
