I don't see the point of getting hardwood floors then covering them

with carpets.

When we bought the house, the living room had carpet with hard wood underneath. The bedrooms had hardwood that had been refinished. I re-carpeted the living room as I thought I'd be cold with wood floors in the living room. I re-carpeted again 10 years later, and several years later that carpet looked lousy.
We decided to have the hardwood refinished. Best $ spent. It brightened the room right up, adds value to the home too. Better too, if anyone has any allergies/asthma.
^ you dont cover them with carpets, As Lainey explained you put down area rugs.
Area rugs cover a small area and prevent abnormal wear to an area of the floor where you may traffic on more than the rest of the floor. They also bring color and warmth to a ropm.
With that said I personally do not have any area rugs though, i love the look of the wood to much.
