Default Engine Cleaner?

One of my friends said that I should look into doing a engine cleaner.

Supposibly it's done a couple different ways. One is to drain the engine oil and fill with a special cleaner. They run the engine for a while and it scrubs all the CRAP out of the car. They fill and run the engine again with oil. Drain again and then refill again and your good to go.

The other one I heard was they basically steam clean the inside of the engine err something like that.

What say you.......fact/fiction/ upside/downside.

I have 2 Honda's I might do this on of course one is my S.........91,000 miles.......probably needs a good cleaning!!!!(would love to Bore-o-scope if somebody has one at the Nor'Easter)

Other is a '01 Civic with ~65k.

Thanks guys!

We can bring one

Not too sure about cleaning the oil system ??? It stays preaty clean if you change your oil regularly .Not sure what you would put in there that acts like oil and cleans ???

Bet if you pull your valve cover it will still look new inside.

The new E gas has good cleaning effects . ( We looked at my miata with a bore-a-scope and pistons were clean as a whistle with 126K on it . We were conserned with carbon due to me having detonation , we concluded I got bad gas )

i also heard that engine cleaners will cause more problems than it's worth because it breaks down sludge that may help your seals

If you are changing your oil regularly, you should be set.

The cleaners in the auto parts stores are just various solvents.....
