Four day work week
Turns out while I was taking a vacation day yesterday, there was a meeting at my company where they told everyone that we're going to attempt working 10 hour days next week and not work Fridays. This will continue as long as they continue to make shipments on time. I don't know quite how to feel about it. I do really like the idea of a three day weekend every week. I don't really like the idea of being at work for 10 hours every day. Currently, I show up at work around 7:45 and leave at 4pm. Usually, I take an hour lunch or so. I like those hours a lot. Now it looks like I'll have to be in around 6am to get out about the same time. This means getting up at hours which normally occur only once a day for me. Should I be happy about these new hours?

Take it. I miss my 12 hour days 3 days a week schedule sometimes. They're longer days, but if you're busy you don't really notice it.
Can you do other stuff like say, leave at 5-ish like the rest of the world?

Geesh, Erick, you work my hours.
I would LOVE to have three day weekends every week, but I don't think I'd like the longer days that I'd need to put in. The few folks that I know that have that schedule tell me they are pretty beat by the end of the day, and often get nothing done. So their day "off" ends up being a day to play catch up.
You don't have a choice in the matter, so give it at try.

Well, it's hard to tell someone how they should feel, but I personally wouldn't be as happy about having the decision made for me.
I've worked 4-10s for a couple years now. My company has offered that option for years, although they do not allow us to take Monday or Friday off on a regular basis. I take Wednesdays off. (And I just got out of bed 10 minutes ago... )
Personally, I got used to the 10 hour days, but I found I don't get in any earlier... I end up staying later. And it really does feel like there's not much left in the day once you get home, because it's almost immediately dinner time and you only have a couple hours of personal time.
The biggest issue I have is in the winter, when a 10 hour work day is longer than the daylight. It can mess with you, psychologically.
However, I still continue to do the 4-10s, as it gives me time to catch up on sleep, relax, and get things done that normally have to be done during business hours, like doctor appointments, haircuts, or things like DMV visits.
So personally, it's kind of a "what you make of it" scenario. I like the personal time, but then again, I never had an enjoyable lunch hour.

I have a 3 day weekend every other week (9/80 work schedule) and can't get enough of my 3 day weekends.
You'll adjust to the longer days and it's no big deal at all. I currently work 7-4:30 every day and it works out just fine.
