What's the funniest is that it is exactly 50 years since the impossible dream. This is more like the impossible nightmare!

Find out about Gagne by letting him face 5 batters in a row unsuccesfully? I think I had it figured out after the first walk. Certainly no later than when bases were loaded.

Let's weigh this against what is at stake. First place in the division = easier schedule in playoffs as compared to wild card. Best record in the AL= choice of the two schedules. Francona is playuing for very important positions with very few games left to go. A losing streak in the last two weeks of the regular season is a very bad way to start the post season. Francona risks all this to find out what we all knew when men were on first and second. He is going to "buddy-buddy" his way right out of first place.
Since the wild card spot was implented in the playoffs, it really doesn't seem to matter if your the 1 seed or the wildcard. It's been something like 6 or 7 World series in a row where at least one team was a wild card, and there have been a good percentage of those that have won. Home field advantage has been pre determined in the World Series by the All Star game (thanx to the American League win again this year). So it's only two series in which you play one more game away that at home. I think what is more important is if the team can start getting on a role. If the sox are struggling now, that should (hopefully) mean that the can still turn this thing around and start playing good baseball again in October. Where as the Yankees are peeking now, which means they'll come down at some point soon. It all averages out. Only problem with the sox is injuries, they're starting to drop like flies......
I'll have to hand it to the Yankees, they have turned that ship completely around. They had no pitching, at all. I thought Mo was all done at the beginning of the year, with no bull pen to help. It's really amazing how the pitching staff has turned around. Joba is just amazing, kind of like what Pap did we he came up from Pawtucket. I have a strange feeling it's going to be Red Sox/Yankees again in the ALCS, would you want it any other way?

Nope! Thats what makes this game the most interesting. I really don't even care about the world series as much as I do the times the yank and sox battle it out. I mean they are great baseball games. I remember a few years back where the yanks finally took the sox in the ALCS then went on to lose in the world series to the marlins. I really didn't give a crap but treasured the 12 or 1am night ending games and the water cooler talks in the office the next day.
