Default Grass seed

I have some bare spots on the lawn. Not as bad as the bare spot on my head, but getting there. I understand fallis a good time to plant grass seed. Any tips on that from the landscapers in the community?

Ideally, a few weeks ago would have been the best time. Mid August when the nights start to get cooler. But if you put down a fast germinator it may still take. Bluegrass takes too long and you don't have time for it now. Maybe Rye or Fescue.

Bill, if your not in a hurry the old trick is to put it down right on top of the last snow in the spring. the snow will melt and the seed will settle in and germinate upon the first sunny days. You would be suprised to find out just how little sun and heat it takes to germinate the seed. Used to work for a landscaper that how i found this out.

So I just throw it on top of the last snow? How do I know there won't be another snow after that???

Our back lawn is in BAD shape. We got almost none of the rain storms you folks did to the north and west over the summer.

Rick finally gave up on watering it. We may dump a BAG of seed on it in the hopes that some take. If not, he might have a huge project on his hands next spring. It never has looked this bad.

not a problem, in the end after all the snow melts its going to be sitting on your lawn ready to germinate heck throw it onto the first snow in december makes no difference really.
