Default Help me identify this bar in the trunk

Looking inside the trunk with the panel over the spare tire removed. I can see a bar on the floor connecting left/right to the body. The bar is right under the spare tire's edge as it sits in the trunk. It's not really connecting the strut towers so what is it.

It look like it's bent, also, I can flex it easily with my girly hands. If this bar is supposed to reinforce the chasis then it is definitly in no condition to do it's job.

BTW, my car will be going back to the body shop that initially fixed it over a year ago in about two-three weeks. They will replace the steering rack, front sway bar and repaint the front bumper, etc.

Thanks!

I belief that's the upper rear brace. It is kinda wimpy.

Good luck with the repairs.

Thanks! I guess I'll have them replace it anyways.

I was hoping this might have to do something with the car not holding it's alignments but I guess if it's "wimpy" I should not expect a fix with a new brace.

HU? If your saying what I think your saying............it's on the floor and is about an inch in diameter! AND YOU CAN BEND IT?!?!?!

Did your car go through some sort of metallurgic change? That or your really Superman!!!!

It's not the trunk lid opener bar your talking about right. Thin and black.

Thanks a lot PWRMKR!

Pinky: No, I cannot bend it, I'm saying it IS bent and when I grab the bar in the middle with my hand I can flex it a bit. This flex may be a result of the bar getting bent. Most of the impact from the accident was "absorbed" by the area by the rear right tire.

BTW, it doesn't fell like it's a solid bar, more like a pipe.

No problem.

Yes, it's a cheesy thin pipe. The pipe makes it axially strong and light, like a straw.

I would think the repair shop would have caught that. ummm.

Good luck.

If that is bent...............then that means the frame up higher might be bent too.

I wonder if you get a new pipe if it will fit correctly!

That's what I was thinking. It looks like a tight fit so I wonder if a new normal (straight) bar would even fit at all

PS: Is there any aftermarket replacement bar that's more rigid?
