HELP!! Need install CD key Windows 98 Second edition
What exactly do you mean by "nuked"? There's nothing that can't be fixed unless there was a meltdown. What processor/config do you exactly have? Branded?
I'm out of work too so I've got time if you need any help. I also have two old PCs that I use for "parts" if you need some legacy parts. We can also install my backup HD in your computer to boot it if HD is the problem - it's got the OS.
Let me know.

Your in MA!
Wish you were closer MAS.
I thank you for the offer though I think it is HDD related. If this is the case then I think I need to just do a new computer. At minimum new HDD and build around it.
Thanks

Pinky,
If that is all you do with your computer you really do not need to replace the computer just get a new HD. They are very simple to replace, a matter of a wire harness and an electrical plug, then format and install an Operating System. It really is that easy.
Sorry but I do not have a HD or I would just mail it to you. You could pick up a used one from a computer store, but new ones are not that expensive either. This would be cheaper then a tower by far. If your mother board was toast then I would consider a new computer, but most components in a PC are very easy to replace or install.
If you want to save on the cash for now do not waste money on a new computer. Think wedding my friend.

I'm actually on the CT/MA border, but I know it's still a 1.5 hour drive since you're almost on the border with NY yourself.
If you can find a new tower that you can afford go for it otherwise feel free to PM me if you change your mind.

Pinky,
For what it is worth, before you do anything radical, you might want to try something easy.
If you have never cleaned out your c:windowstemp drive you may just need to delete all the junk that accumulates in there from your surfing. You'd be stunned at how much cr** is downloaded without you knowing it when a web page loads up on screen. If you have never cleaned out your temp space your PC may be gagging and not have anyplace to put the stuff that downloads automagically behind the scenes on web pages/games etc. like graphics files.
Right click on "Start", then select "Explorer", then navigate down to c:windowstemp directory. Put the cursor on the directory and then right click and select "properties". Take note of the number of files and size of the directory. If you show more than a few hundred files this could be the culprit. Delete all the files in this directory but not the directory itself. If it won't let you delete some files, not to worry, just delete every file that you can.
Not saying this is the cause of the problem but its a no-cost fix if it is. Deleting all the files that are in the temp directory won't hurt anything.
Then download a free copy of diskkeeper lite and run it to defragment your harddrive. It should help make things run a little faster by reorganize the location of the programs on the harddrive so all the pieces are brought together and optimized. Sounds like you've had this machine awhile. It may only need some TLC.

I think Window 98 is the best system for game..
especially when you don't have enough memory, CPU...etc
running Windows 98 will not eat up too much of speed..
but, not many people will still have the win98 code...
I will try to see if I could find it, if I could ever find it
I will PM you
About the WinXP, I don't consider it as steady as Win2K..
so, I think XP is half steady and half muti-media(for game)

on a 300mhz i would rather run win2k. Pinky a new PC is relatively cheap these days so it might just be better to get one. But if you are deadset on fixing what you have. I think I have some stuff in storage that you are welcome to as well. Unless my sister's boyfriend has already vultured it.
Ok here is the scoop. I have "found" a copy of win2k as it is very stable and runs well. I will be scavanging from my old computer and scavanging from my friends computer to make a new baby!!! His is only like 9 months old.......1.4 ghz I believe.
I just bought a new maxtor HDD 120 GB for $105(go costco). So I should be all set there not using an old HDD.
I actually really want to toss this HDD in to my computer here and load up windows on the HDD then build the new one and toss in the pre-loaded Win2k HDD. I know it will now have to re-recognise everything but I wonder if it would work correctly?
