Yup. And when I was a kid, they had an afternoon movie called "Dialing for Dollars." I'd come home from school to find my Mom watching it, hoping they'd call our house so she could win $200 or something.

I faintly remember dialing for dollars. That's when regular TV looked like the Portuguese channel does now. real cheezy and poorly produced.

My daughter in law's parents, were visiting (from Portugal) for an extended stay over the holiday. My granddaughter told me "there is a lot of Portuguese going on."

I guess her grandfather watched Portuguese news at a loud volume twice a day... She was not thrilled with that.

Sounds like life at my in-laws. There is RTP and TV20 blaring all day long unless the soccer game is on at which point the old man blasts the radio with the game and the old lady tries to raise the volume on the TV to drown it out. Then they procede to scream at each other to have a normal conversation instead of lowering the volume.

If you spend more than a half hour there, when you leave you have a splitting headache and smell like onions for two days from whatever they are cooking. Cooking is taking place around the clock. I swear you can come there at 3:30 AM and she has something in the oven.

My son told he he could not get near his own stove when the in-laws were visiting. I don't think he really minded. He likes them and they helped out a lot with the kids.

The granddaughter had quite the story to tell about her grandfather going out with his friends and drinking too much wine.
