what I always find amusing is the difference between sport bike and harley riders.
typical sport bike; full face helmet, shorts and tee-shirt, sneakers.
typical harley; half brain bucket with full leather jacket and pants and full boots.

go figure.

Ya, that is funny isnt it. I think its the toughness image of leather that appeals to the harley crowd and no helmet law in maine so most have no helmets , and the sportbike crowd wears helmets cause they perceive that they drive faster so they might knock there head. Funny thing is neither is fully protected. Now you get the vintage guy on the old honda he has helmet ,gloves, chaps, eye protection, leather jacket etc but his avg speed is just below the speed limit. He is the less likely to get into trouble to begin with.

The ones that make me cringe are the teenage girls on the sportbikes as passengers, the guy will have jeans, t-shirt helmet and sometimes gloves- the girl passenger tank top shorts and maybe sneakers ive seen barefoot too.

All I can think of is dont hit the pavement!

I ride a sport bike everyday, work and most other places i go since it gets well over 40 mpg. I can't always wear boots and jeans since sometimes i am going to work but i do wear my jacket gloves and full face helmet, it is a personal choice and trust me sometimes i wish i had less on becase it can get very hot somedays. I have seen many scars from people that didn't respect the bike they were on or they were on a friends which they weren't familar with which is also a big cause of accidents imo.

When I ride, I usually head north into New Hampshire. Right at the border there is a small turnout area where I stop to take off my helmet. I know the risks involved but I'll take them rather than give up the feeling of the wind against me. And I'm one of those guys who always wears a leather jacket, jeans, and boots. Go figure.

Well your body and skin will be in good shape if you have an accident.....your head, not so much.

On hot days I am in a t-shirt, shorts, sneakers, no helmet (in N.H.).

Personal choice, I understand the risks and I try to minimize those risks by
constantly being aware of my surroundings, always having a plan should
something happen in front of me, do speeds that I can control in any
situation and always going on the premise that the guy at that side street
is going to pull out in front of me.

I've had two 3-car accidents happen right in front of me on the highway but
because I am constantly looking for an escape route should something happen
in front of me, I drove right by it both times.
