ok can anyone explain to me why any pitcher is worth 161 million that is 161,000,000 dollars over a 7 year stretch?

I mean this guy isn't curing cancer or saving the economy or finding world peace.
he's throwing a frickin baseball.
I mean where talking serious CEO money here and there not worth it either.

 

Because it's the Yank-mes...it's their M.O...try to buy a championship.

I heard they are trying to sign another big time pitcher as well.

 

I think Varitek may be pricing himself out of a job. Cash will prbably do a decent job behind the plate. He may not have the deep pitcher-leading skills that Tek has yet, but it will come.

 

Remember "The Treasure of Sierra Madre"? The old guy (Walter Huston) delivers a speech about how a large part of the value of gold is tied up in the efforts of those who failed to find it. A large part of C C Sabathia's worth is tied up in the millions of us who played t-ball, Little League, etc. but failed to make it. How many who set out to be accountants, teachers, etc. failed to make it?
