Thanks for all the info (except the part about Rick). I'll be trying some of those solutions when I get home tonight. I probably won't go the photoshop route. I don't really want to buy any more software. I don;t really do much with pictures, I'd just like to be able to resize them and post them or e-mail them.

To quickly resize a photo an easy way is to use Microsoft Photo Editor in XP.

Picasa is a nice free tool but the Photo Editor takes seconds. Its fine for simple resizing to post or email.

Open the photo in Microsoft Photo Editor:

Select IMAGE --> RESIZE

Then simply change the % downward to the size you would like for posting or emailing.

I do this all the time as my wife regularly emails me 1MB files that I resize before sending to friends, family, or posting.

When I work photos at home I use Photoshop CS but I am doing more than a simple resize.

mike are you running Vista?
No XP.

My procedure only works for renaming files one at a time. Fortunately, my webpage uses Gallery Remote which automatically resizes them all for me during upload

Ill check the Vista system at home. It shouldnt be any more difficult... but then again it is Microsoft.. so moving forward does not mean not loosing functionality.

xp has a really nice "power tool" that makes it a snap

This PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a right-click

Vista is very different from XP just to set the record straight. If anyone wants to see a simple program that works wonders with pics go to www.hamrick.com and give vueprint a look. Im a protographer and ive used it for over 15 years there is nothing as versatile or faster than vueprint to do most simple photo edits. Yes I own most photo editing software from photoshop cs3 extended all the way down to picasa etc, but vueprint gets the most use on my machines.
It is also compatible with windows, mac os, linux, Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X 10.2

Once you have purchased it the license will last forever today its up to $29 but when i started with it it was 9.99 and that was 15 years ago
