Steve,
Here are some directions and information.

DIRECTIONS FROM Southern New Hampshire
Route 93 North to Exit 32 (Lincoln, NH)
Take the left at the end of the exit ramp onto Route 112 East (Kancamagus Highway)
Follow Kancamagus Highway approximately 37 miles over the mountain pass - VERY SCENIC!!
Additional Scenic Road
Take Bear Notch Road on your left
(this road is closed from late fall to late spring)
Follow to the end (approximately 9 miles) to Bartlett Village. Bear Notch is further up, road could be rough.
I also have another route that takes you further up north across Dixie Notch and others. That would fill your entire day and probably give you about 8 - 10 hours of driving. Let me know if you want them. Your imagination is you limit up there almost everywhere you turn will be an adventure, it is God's country. From Nashua to I93 Exit 32 is approximately 1 hour and 30-45 minute away from Nashua.
Have fun, you may see my wife and I up there. It is Motor Cycle week starting Saturday so you will want to avoid Wears Beach and the big lakes areas.

Three hours would be good. Police are suppose to plentiful so 70 is the speed of choice to avoid a ticket. You will also want to becareful at the border and toll boths as they like to patrol those areas. Have fun.
Also, stay alert for moose in that area, especially at dusk. My brother lives north of there and I have seen many of them close to the road. At his body shop, they do a lot of work on vehicles involved in moose and deer accidents.
There is always the "Drive the Wine Country of CT" tomorrow!

Be careful of Rt 302 between Bartlett and Crawford Notch (Twin Mountain) - It's road construction season - when I was there a month ago, the pavement was ripped up. Turned around cause I forgot my Teva's and did not go back that way.
If you go Kancamangus to Bear Notch, follow to the end. Take a right at the flashing lights, go past Attitash Ski area then go a while, take a left onto Rt 16 West, which will take you thru Pinkham Notch to Gorham NH. When in Gorham, take a left on I think Rt 2 West which will take you around the other side of Mt Washington back towards I-93 / Rt 3, and go thru Franconia Notch and see where the old man used to be...

Hey All,
I am planning a trip to Maine in August and want to drive up (from DC area) all the back roads though PA, NY VT and across NH. I will definitely add this road to my route.
I also want to drive up to Mt Washington (as close as possible) are the roads in that area paved?
According to my MS streets and trips software there is a road called the Mt Washington Auto road, it looks good and twisty on the map.
Cheers,
George
