I need a new beater
So my 1993 Mazda b2600 has a major motor problem. Not sure if it's worth fixing as it's making some pretty loud rattling sounds and major valve ticking now. Overheated on the highway (but not hot enough to invoke a light), oil light came on so I stopped and checked oil (1 quart low). I had a quart with me so I added it and the light went out but it had already started making the noises. 3ish more miles and light starts to come on again, I barely made it home 1 mile later...
I don't know sh1t about motors but I feel that any money invested at this point is probably a waste?
Thoughts?
anyone selling or know someone selling an inexpensive truck?

Try one of those donation places like Helping Hands here in Massachusetts. People donate thier old vehicles rather than try to sell them. You can get a good beater for cheap and some small part of the money goes to a charity.

Question for all the capable wrenches in here.
It seems i may have been operating my little truck with a failing oil pump. Now that it seems to have completely failed, would it be worth fixing after incurring likely damage from driving for about a mile at low RPM after failure with the oil light flickering. I know there are a lot of variables and every situation is different but I'm looking for a "In my experience" type of answer. What kind of things could I check to see if this is salvagable or a loss.

Based on what you said, you may have already heard the rod rap. If that is the case, then the answer is No. Best bet is to get a junkyard motor and just swap it out. After that, see if a local rebuilder has engines already on the shelf. You can give him your old one as a core.
Since any of these require you to take out the old engine, I suppose you could pull it and tear it down to see how bad the crankshaft is. But if you can find a low mileage motor in a junkyard with some kind of basic "it is good to go" warranty, that would be a fast weekend project with the right tools and maybe a little help. Any engine work will take much longer and more tools and probably the help of a machine shop.
