I agree with portion control. Too many times, I found myself trying to finish what's on the plate. I think it is just subconscious to not waste food. However, because of the portion sizes that are prevalent in this country, we often eat more than what it takes to get us to "comfortably full". When I lived in Europe for a year, the portion size of food was almost half of what it is here. It makes a big difference to stop when you feel full, not until the plate is empty.

Also, I never eat breakfast, I've been on the two meal plan for as long as I can remember. I really don't see the point. People just sit around all day these days, we don't need as many meals as when people were doing manual labor. I also skip meals when I am not hungry, instead of just eating out of habit.

Good luck Bill, I've started down the same path over two years ago. Rarely does one ever look at one's own lifestyle and critically look at every aspect of it and see if any part of it can be done better. Most people get into a "comfort zone" and change doesn't happen until some major incident. About two years ago, I decided to look critically at every part of my lifestyle. It was like a little project. Look at my lifestyle from morning till night as if from a third person perspective, criticize and question everything I did and said from morning till night and try to find alternatives, better ways to do this, improve, repeat, form new habits and incubate a new lifestyle.
I did this a few years ago...shortly after my divorce, I sat down and thought about my life (noticed I was losing hair at 23 ). Ever since then, I've made it a point to not stress about work - after all, it's just a job. As long as it pays enough for me to enjoy my toys, I'm good

I have the hardest time eating anything at all. Working graveyards, it's easy for me to eat maybe 1x a day (on my lunch break) which is definitely not healthy. But then, that also depends on how committed to the gym I've been. I've found I eat more meals (small ones) when I'm regularly hitting the gym...

Good luck to Bill and everyone else looking to make a turn for the better

I 'm hoping to increase calorie output as opposed to diminishing intake.
but yup fat it is.

I am chagning my diet as opposed to cutting back.
lunch was spilt baby bok choy seared in the wok with a little chicken broth and oyster sauce. and a PBfluff ( yeah i know, not good)

satisfied my palette without a lot of calories.
I find when I eat mostly simple asian (not chinese takeout), I do lose weight.
gotta go pick up some brown rice.

The thing that interests me is that the only proven way to increase your life expectancy is to reduce your caloric intake. It's been proven in many life forms, including humans, that in an otherwise healthy diet, if you eat less, you will live longer.

While I'm not suggesting walking around with a growling stomach all the time, there's more than one good reason for eating less.

There's a quote, I think from Japan or something, that says "Stop eating when you're 3/4 full." Many of us eat until we're full, and then some... but I find that if I stop eating before that, and wait 5-10 minutes, I'm no longer hungry at all. And I don't get hungrier any sooner.

So when it's diet time, I just make sure I eat very little. Tasty and wholesome, but not much of it.

EDIT: Apparently, it's 80% full. Read the article

Good luck.

Its gets harder to get to the gym each week for me now. Theirs too many other things that get in the way with life. I am glad that I do eat right though.
