The good thing about becoming an officer at your age is you will be old enought to get some respect from the enlisted men. The officers right out of college do not seem to be well respected.

I plan on working very hard at earning their respect and taking the best care of my Soldiers as I can. I am very lucky to have several people at work who are Army officers that I can draw on for experience and advise. One of them is a General. The NCOs I work with are just as valuable in that respect as well. My best bet is to come prepared and ready to lead/continue learning.

The age factor might help for a few minutes, but they would see through that in a heartbeat if I was a D-bag just there for a paycheck and a way out of the house for a weekend a month. The way things are now and in the foreseeable future, we can all expect to be deployed to a war at some point. This is serious business and I can't afford to F it up.

Do it! Off you go!

Might as well get those last years in so you can get a retirement at the end.
