When do you start basic?

 

I won't be doing basic because I already did boot camp back in 1995 when I initially joined. There is a course called WTC (warrior transition course) that the Army sends folks coming in from other services and transitioning to being a Soldier. Per regulations, guys like me that are going to OCS (officer candidate school) are not shipped to WTC because OCS is one hell of a boot camp all by itself. I have requested to be sent to WTC however just to get the edge heading into OCS. Whether or not they can get me a slot is unknown at this time.

Right now, I am a sergeant, because that was my rank when I got out of the Navy. Upon completion of OCS, I will be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and after the follow on schooling, I will be assigned as a platoon leader somewhere. I am VERY excited and can't wait to start. In the mean time I have my first drill weekend next month and will continue to drill until I get shipped out to OCS and/or WTC.

Sure, I am charging by the mile. As long as you change the oil when needed. I don't care if you put 100k on it. Heck, it's a Honda it will NEVA EVA break.

I have a ton of stuff I need to come up to speed on. At this point I am on my own though as far as learning. I just mastered the Soldiers Creed and enlisted/officer rank insignia. I am studying land navigation and the coordinate system used in calling for fire now. Luckily there are a few good Soldiers that I work with that have provided me with manuals and some guidance. I could go to OCS without knowing this as it will be covered, but the more I learn now, the less stress I will endure when I get there. My buddy is giving me a course on proper wear of the Army beret tonight if it is quiet enough on the midnight shift
