Calling to ask one question is old fashioned when it can be easily texted. If he didnt reply then i know i saved a bunch of time waiting to leave a message i dont even know he received. I dont check my voicemail sometimes until hours after i get the message. a text i will read right away.

I have the same rule

It is hard to texts and work on cars at the same time , But I can talk on Speaker phone and still work
